MONTEREY, Tenn. - An 81-year-old Putnam County man said he was in the fight of his life when he became the target of a violent home invasion.
Eugene Buckner said a knock at his door on Tuesday was nothing that he expected. A woman, whom he said he never met, was at the door asking for money for an alleged sick friend.
He said when he asked her to leave, that when things turned ugly.
"She started to push her way in and I had a pistol on my hip pocket," said Buckner. "I pulled it out and told her to get away."
Buckner said within seconds he and 22-year-old Jessica Binkley were fighting when she grabbed his gun.
